Lists
Perhaps the most important part to complete before thinking about sending anything is the establishment of your contacts list.
To do so, click on the Lists menu and then Create a list.
- Type in the name of your list (no hyphen, space or special characters)
Select the type of list;
Mailing: This will be a contacts list
Test : Addresses designated for testing purposes. (Usually your own address or those of colleagues).
Select the default language of your list. You can always change it later. Be aware that if, the message’s registered language do not match the list’s registered language, the system will not send out your email.
Click on Save and continue then refer yourself to the User’s guide for more information on the next steps.
While you’re there, you might want to take a look at the Segmentation section. You might find a very useful feature.
Content
The content consists of elements that you wish to add to your message. It is generally content that you may use many times in the future and wish not having to do it again every time. For example; a signature with a logo or a picture, automated greetings, legal requirements or copyrights you want featured on every email, links to social networks, etc.
To create content, click on the Content menu and then Create content. Before you create any content, we suggest you to look at the following page in case the content you want to create is already there
Default Snippets
On this page you’ll find two text editors. The first one is identified as English content and the second one as French content. It is very important to register your content in the proper language you wish to address because the system thinks on its own. If you create a message that you register as French but you want to add content that has been registered in the English content only, your content will not show up in the email. If you plan on addressing both languages, we suggest you register the same information in both editors. The French version in the French editor, and the English version in the English editor. This way, your content will be automatically adapted to the language you will have chosen for your message.
To create content, several methods are possible:
Copy/paste a text from a word processing application (MS Word, Pages, etc) or from a web page.
Insert a link to a PDF File
Insert a PDF file as an image
Insert images
Insert a link to a web page
Type the text directly in the editor
Etc.
Feel free to smash the Content Preview button to ensure the content is exactly like you wish it to be. Once you are satisfied, click Save. If your content contains linked elements without a url, a warning message will appear and inform you. You can either edit them by adding a url or remove the link property, or simply ignore and continue.
You can revisit or modify your content at all times by accessing the Manage content tab in the Content menu.
Please note that some default content already exists. You can always start with those and modify them along the way.
Messages
The message is the heart of your send out. It’s where you join all content and articles to create the main body of your email and to create a campaign of interest.
To create a message, click on Create a message in the Content menu.
Type your message’s name (no hyphen, no space and no special characters) (your subscribers will not see it).
Select the language of your message. It is important to establish the same language as the list you will address; otherwise the system will not send your email.
Identify the personalization source (the contacts list you wish to address)
Your message can be established in many ways. From the simplest to the more detailed, everyone can find his match.
Copy/paste a text from a word processing application (MS Word, Pages, etc) or from a web page.
Insert a link to a PDF File
Insert a PDF file as an image
Insert images
Insert a link to a web page
Type the text directly in the editor
Etc.
There are only a few examples of the simplest methods to write your message. Then, there is the infinite amount of possibilities thanks to the responsive templates. And, if that still isn’t enough for you, you can create your own templates thanks to the template builder.
Feel free to smash the Email preview button in the text editor and the Quick preview button at the bottom of the page, to ensure the message is exactly like you wish it to be. Once you are satisfied, click Save. Again, if your message contains links with an empty url, a warning message will appear to inform you. You can either edit them by adding a url or remove the link property, or simply ignore and continue.
If the tag [snippets.bundle_of_legal_requirements] is not present in your message, a warning message will appear to inform you. You can either edit and add the tag or simply ignore and continue, although it is strongly recommended that you add the tag in order to stay compliant with email policies and regulations.
The warning message appears only to free accounts.
You can revisit and modify your messages at all times by accessing the Manage messages tab.
Campaigns
A campaign is the final result that your subscribers will receive. To create a Campaign, you need a contacts list and a message. There are two ways to create a campaign:
Create each element separately and combine them in the campaign (Recommended for messages involving templates)
Create your message directly in the campaign (Recommended for material that does not involve usage of templates and is meant to be used once).
Type the name of your campaign (no hyphens, no space or special characters)
Type the subject of your campaign. Choose it wisely as it will be the title of your email. You subscribers will see it.
Click on Save and continue.
Select the contacts list your wish to use.
Click on Save and Continue.
You now have two options to create your message:
Option A ) Create a new message: To create the content of your campaign directly.
Option B ) Use an existing message: If you choose this option, you need to click on the folder where your message has been saved so you can select it.
When your message is ready, click on Save and continue.
Click on Preview to see the final result of your email before sending a test.
If you are not satisfied and wish to keep working on your message, you can access it by clicking on one of the previous steps featured under the main title of the page Campaign management. Or, you can leave the campaign by accessing the Manage content tab. Once you’re done with the message, you can return to your campaign by clicking on the Manage tab in the Campaign menu. Then click the View and edit icon of your campaign.
When you are satisfied with the preview, click on send a test. If the test is good for you, click on Send final.
You can now choose whether you want to send your campaign right now of at a scheduled time. Confirm your approbation of this launch and the number of recipients.
The trainer’s advice:
As long as you do not confirm the final sending of your campaign, you can review and modify your messages and your contents as many times as you want. Thus you can preview your newsletter while testing as many features as possible. This will certainly help you understand the mechanics better and execute your sending task in a more productive and effective way.
And so is the end of our little beginner’s guide. Welcome to eFlyerMaker, we hope you will be a 100% satisfied. If you have any troubles, please refer to the user’s guide located in the More menu or contact our support team.
Enjoy your new tool!
